I visit Epcot every year for the Food & Wine Festival; looking forward to my visit next week. I have never been to any of the cooking demos, though. The demos cost about $14.00. Any advice, experiences or feedback on the demos would be appreciated!

    Hi Doris,

My husband and I try to take in at least one culinary demonstration every year during the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, and we've never been disappointed.

The culinary demonstrations we've attended over the years have all featured a representative from a winery, who describes the glass of wine that has been poured for you. Then the featured chef prepares a dish. While he or she cooks, you will be served a tasting portion of the dish, similar in size to tastes you get at the festival kiosks.

The chefs take questions at the end of the demonstration and usually hang around for a few minutes to chat or pose for pictures.

You will get a copy of the recipe. Sometimes, it is more complicated than I would attempt at home. But often, the recipes are something I can and will make. Last weekend, for example, we saw Tim Hockett, chef at Nacional 27 in Chicago. I can't wait to make the chimichurri skirt steak he demonstrated. It was delicious and didn't seem overly difficult.

We also have done some of the wine and beverage seminars. In each case, we felt like we learned something and that it had been worth the $14 and the 45 minutes. At the mixology seminars, you also come away with recipes.

If there is a culinary demonstration that interests you, I strongly suggest you make a reservation. Some of them sell out well in advance, especially the ones on the weekends.

The demonstrations take place in the Festival Center, which is near Mission Space in Future World. The Festival Center also contains a wine store, cookbooks and other merchandise specific to the festival.

I hope that's helpful and that, if you decide to do a seminar, you find it as interesting and tasty as we have. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions or offer more details.

    Enjoy!
