Welcome to planDisney, Amy! It's always a pleasure to chat with a fellow New Jerseyan, especially when the topic is The Most Magical Place on Earth! Your stay at
Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is just around the corner, and I'm thrilled to be your "safari guide" through the wild world of Lightning Lanes.
Amy, I LOVE visiting Walt Disney World with all my nearest and dearest. It's a chance to connect, bond, and make lasting, magical memories! Last year, I planned a Disney World vacation for a large group of friends and family. We had several room reservations, and like you, two different arrival dates. Since there's nothing I love more than
Lightning Lane, I made it my mission to find the best way forward.
As you may already know, Disney World resort guests can purchase Lightning Lane and pre-book up to 3 eligible attractions 7 days before check-in day. Since the other party in your group is arriving
after you, you won't be able to book for them based on your party's check-in date. Instead, you'll have two options, and each has pros and cons.
The first option is to book your party's Lightning Lane selections as soon as you become eligible. This will give you the best availability when choosing your favorite attractions. If you go this route, make sure to share your selections with the other party in your group. Then, when they become eligible 7 days before
their check-in date, they can try to schedule their Lightning Lanes for times that align with yours. This isn't a perfect science, but remember you can always modify your times later, and that your windows only need to overlap long enough for you all to enter the Lightning Lane line together.
Now for your second option. If riding together is the priority, you can also wait until 7 days before the other party's check-in date to book your Lightning Lanes together. This is how I handled it for our big group trip, and it worked out well, especially since we were more focused on riding together than we were on specific attractions.
Amy, your visit falls during my favorite time of year - the
2026 EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival! While you're there, be sure to stop by Swirled Showcase for the Peach DOLE Whip. I tried this on a recent visit, and I'm already hankering for more!
I hope this is helpful, Amy, and that your next visit is full of magic and pixie dust!
Allison
