Welcome to planDisney, Whitney. We're so glad you're here and brought this question to us. It won't be long until you're walking down Main Street, U.S.A. towards the hub and deciding which land to enter first. I love that you're thinking ahead and getting all of your plans ready for your magical visit.
My oh my, Whitney. You've picked a wonderful time to visit as
Halloween Time will have descended upon the Disneyland Resort. There will be hand-carved pumpkins galore adorning Main Street, U.S.A. and the giant Mickey pumpkin will be there to greet you as you walk into Disneyland.
This change of seasons also means a change in nighttime spectaculars and entertainment. We recently learned through
Disney Parks Blog that the nighttime spectacular, Wondrous Journeys, will make its last performance of the year on August 31. This will make way for the spooktacular
Halloween Screams to take over featuring Jack Skellington, his ghostly dog Zero and plenty of villains.
You can absolutely experience this show without reservations. The most popular viewing spots are in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle and along Main Street, U.S.A. You will typically see guests reserving their spots near the castle fairly early. If you're looking for a spot that's a little more laid back, I recommend walking over to "it's a small world" for a low-key experience. I find that there are fewer people in this area and you can still enjoy the projections and you will also be able to see the fireworks on the nights when they are scheduled.
The same thing goes for World of Color - ONE. Although we know of an ending date for Wondrous Journeys, we still haven't seen an announcement about World of Color - ONE in Disney California Adventure Park. I recommend keeping an eye on Disney Parks Blog as well as checking the
Entertainment Schedule closer to your visit for any updates.
If World of Color - ONE happens to be showing during your visit, I recommend trying to join the
virtual queue in the
Disneyland app at 12:00 p.m. on the day of the show. The virtual queue is complimentary and gives you access to a reserved viewing area so you don't have to worry about waiting around for too long. Make sure all of your group's tickets are linked before trying to join. I usually set an alarm or reminder on my phone a few minutes before noon to help me remember to join the virtual queue. I also find that there are fewer people at the later, second showing of World of Color - ONE and it's a little easier to find a great viewing spot.
As with any of the entertainment options, showtimes are subject to change and/or cancellation. Whitney, I hope this is helpful as you're getting ready for your magical visit to the Happiest Place on Earth. Please come back to ask us any other planning questions you might have - we love to help.
Have a magical day,
Michelle
