I want to use my veterans discount for my vacation this year. Previous years I had to purchase tickets at the gate. Do I still have to purchase at the gate or can I do it online?

    Hi James! Welcome to planDisney.

On behalf of my own military family and my fellow panelists, I would like to thank you for your service to our country. I know just how important R&R and family time are for our military members, and I'm thrilled to hear you'll be spending your vacation at the Walt Disney World Resort.

The Military Promotional Theme Park Ticket offer is such a great deal for our military service members, and my family loves to take full advantage of this discount. This offer is extended to active duty, reservists, and retired military members; be sure to take a look at the Offer Details to determine if you are eligible. Currently, the discounted tickets may be purchased at your local base ticket office, or via email from Shades of Green, which is the resort hotel for military members located on Walt Disney World Resort property.

You may also purchase the tickets at a Walt Disney World Resort theme park ticket window, but there are two really good reasons not to do so in 2021. One is that the tickets are tax-free when purchased on base or at Shades of Green. The other is that Guests currently need Disney Park Pass reservations for each day they plan to enter a theme park. You must have a ticket purchased and linked to your My Disney Experience account in order to make Disney Park Pass reservations; if you purchase at the gate you may find that the park you wish to visit is sold out. The theme parks are operating at reduced capacity as part of the phased reopening of the Walt Disney World Resort, and Disney Park Passes do sell out for certain theme parks and dates.

Once you've purchased your tickets, you will need to set up a My Disney Experience account if you haven't already. Once you've done that and logged in, click on “My Plans” and then follow the steps to link your theme park tickets to each Guest’s My Disney Experience profile. You will enter the ticket number located on each ticket; there’s a visual aid in the system that will show you where to locate ticket numbers on various ticket media.

Once you have your tickets linked, you’ll be ready to make your Disney Park Pass reservations. There's a great video on the website that walks you through this process.

I hope this helps explain the process for purchasing your military-discounted tickets and making preparations to enter the theme parks during your visit. If you have any further questions, please come back and see us - it's always a pleasure to assist a fellow military family with their Disney dreaming.

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
    Robyn
