I am a veteran and sometimes I just need a quiet spot to lie down for half an hour without going all the way back to old key west.

Hey Blake, and welcome back to planDisney. Please let me thank you for your service to our country providing safety to all US citizens and the ability to enjoy experiences like visiting Walt Disney World resort.

Being able to take a breather and not have to go back to your hotel, especially if you had to drive to the theme parks is a secret art only known by those who take the time to learn it. There are some obvious first choices, but they don’t necessarily give you the ability to lie down but can have you rest upright, comfortably. Indoor shows such as Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress, The Hall of Presidents, and Mickey’s PhilharMagic in Magic Kingdom Park. Also the American Adventures Pavilion in EPCOT, For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-a-long Celebration at Disney's Hollywood Studios, and It’s Good to Be a Bug at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park all provide a nice cool environment to relax. I have napped many times at all of these locations due to back pain and exhaustion from pounding the theme park pavement and heat. These places are practically perfect in every way.

If you truly need to lie down and I can think of a few places or you can find a spot to rest for a few minutes, and while they are not all necessarily private, they will give you some respite from all of the energy in the theme parks.

    1. The First Aid Centers (at every theme park) have cots inside, which may offer you a few moments to get out of the heat and relax. When you visit the center please let the Cast Members know what you need and see if they can accommodate you at that time. The green space of the Plaza Garden in front of Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park.
    2. The balcony overlooking the lobby of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort. This is a true secret because there are nice nooks with fireplaces where you can really relax and it’s an easy boat ride from Magic Kingdom Park.
    3. At EPCOT there are benches between Connections Cafe and the Creations Shop as you walk towards Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Test Track. This is not a quiet location, but you could get a few moments to rest your back if you can score one of these benches.
    4. Across from the exit of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, there is a covered area adjacent to the food cart, with long stone benches to relax. In addition, there are benches inside the Hollywood Tower Hotel near where the ride exits.
    5. The walkway between Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, and Toy Story Land offers flat areas that can be shaded during the day. In Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge they also open, from time to time, ride queue expansion areas that are shaded.
    6. There are many other places that are relatively quiet, including restaurants, walkways, and even some attractions, such as the Walt Disney World Monorail System, and the Liberty Square Riverboat to give you some time to relax.

planDisney Pro Tip: What gets me most tired is dehydration. You may ask for free cups of ice at any quick service locations that serve water in the theme parks.

Blake, thank you again for serving our country and reaching out to planDisney. Please write me back directly with any follow-up questions.

    Enjoy making many Magical Memories.
