Ahoy, Ajai, and welcome to planDisney! You've come to the right place for advice on vegan desserts – I've been following a plant-based diet for more than ten years and have enjoyed every sailing I've been on with
Disney Cruise Line.
I'm happy to share that Disney Cruise Line does a great job accommodating plant-based Guests. While offerings can vary by ship and sailing, I've had plenty of delicious vegan foods and desserts during my cruises.
While the ice cream from the popular machines on the pool deck contains dairy, you may find fruit-based sorbet and other dairy-free frozen desserts at locations like
Marceline Market and
Cabanas. Some ships have specialty ice cream shops where dairy-free ice cream can be purchased as well. When I sailed on the Disney Wish, I got the most delicious apple caramel ice cream from
Joyful Sweets. Also, you can never go wrong with Dole Whip, which is usually available to purchase at locations like
Frozone Treats.
The main dining rooms are where Disney's culinary team especially shines. Over the years on various cruises, I've been treated to vegan desserts such as chocolate lava cake, sorbet, mousse, cookies, a brownie topped with raspberry sorbet, apple bread pudding with vanilla ice cream, and more. The meals they've made for me have been delicious and satisfying, too.
My biggest tip for enjoying vegan meals and desserts is to communicate your dietary preferences both before and during your cruise. Here's how:
- Once you book your cruise, fill out a Special Requests form under My Reservations. There, you can request plant-based meals. That way, the dining team can plan accordingly and have a note on file. I also highly recommend attending the Onboard Dining Session on embarkation day.
- There are three main dining venues aboard each ship, and you'll be assigned a different one for dinner each night. The serving team will follow you to each location and keep your preferences in mind. During the first night of your cruise, talk with the Head Server about your dietary requests. You'll also be able to plan your meal for the following night – they'll suggest some options, including desserts!
Just like at the Disney Parks, plant-based menu items that don't require modifications are typically marked on the menus with a leaf icon. You may also be able to request items like allergy-friendly Mickey waffles, "chicken" tenders, pizza, cookies, and more. The trick is knowing which locations have something on the menu, and when to request items in advance.
Room service often has options available, too.
Ajai, feel free to write back once you have a ship and sailing in mind – we can share information specific to your trip. Of course, when in doubt about food options while on board, ask your serving team for guidance – they truly want to help make your cruise as enjoyable as possible. If you think of any other questions, please reach out. We'd be happy to help!
Wishing you smooth seas and sweet vegan treats,
Kriss
