I would like to vacation at WDW as a single mother with 4 children, ages 8, 6, almost 3, and 16 months. How (im)practical is this??! My concern is my 8 yr old (and possibly 6 yr old) missing out on 'thrill rides' with no second adult available. Any advice?

Hello Janelle and welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

I have spent quite a bit of time thinking about your situation. I feel EVERY family should take their children to the Walt Disney World Resort at least once. My greatest joy in life is playing with my kids in the Theme Parks and acting like a kid with them. My family’s ‘Disney Side’ is my favorite side and I treasure each and every memory I have made with them while vacationing at the Walt Disney World Resort, and I eagerly look forward making even more memories in the future! I want you to experience this for yourself with your own beautiful family. However, there are some challenges you will face as the only adult. Children under seven-years-old are not able to ride any attractions at Walt Disney World without an adult riding with them. This would make it difficult for your older children to enjoy those ‘big kid’ rides, and even some of the milder attractions you would not be able to enjoy together. There are some rides with bench-type seating, as well as many shows, parades, and character meet-and-greets your family will LOVE!

I would suggest bringing along a friend or family member who could ride along with you and your family, or stay with the little ones while you and your older two take on the more thrilling rides. If this isn’t an option for you, you can simply gear your visit towards all the fun attractions, shows, parades, and character meetings the five of you can experience together.

Janelle, please come back to visit us if you have any other questions while planning your magical vacation!

Hi, I’m Rachel! I am a “boy mom” to two rowdy little men at home and married to my high school sweetheart. I am fortunate enough that my prince charming loves all things Disney just as much as I do! For me, planning a trip to Walt Disney World can be just as magical as being there. It brings our family together as we dream, plan, and count down the days. I would be honored to help plan your visit and share in your family’s very own magic! Learn More About Rachel
