Can you use vacation points to book a regular hotel room at Disney World instead of a villa

    Hi Deana!

Welcome Home, and welcome to planDisney! One of the reasons we felt comfortable taking the plunge to become Disney Vacation Club Members was the flexibility. You don’t have to stay the in the same room at the same time every year. With Disney Vacation Club, each vacation can be different to meet your family’s needs!

Yes, you can use your Disney Vacation Club Vacation Points to book standard resort rooms at both the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort through the Disney Collection! While in my personal opinion, the value isn’t as good as when you use Vacation Points for a villa accommodation, being able to book standard rooms is still a nice option to have. It can be a chance to experience a resort you have always wanted to try, or to book a vacation when villa availability is hard to find during your dates.

Do know that reservations under the Disney Collection, which includes standard resort rooms and trips with Disney Cruise Line and Adventures by Disney, are subject to “The Rule of Four.” This means that you cannot book and travel during the last four months of your Use Year. Bookings are also subject to a booking fee.

This rule can be a little confusing. So you can travel during the last four months of your Use Year, -or- you can book, but you cannot book and travel. For example, if I have a June Use Year, and my banking window ends on January 31, and I am subject to the Rule of Four in February through May. I could use my points in December to book a stay during those last four months, but I cannot wait until February and book a trip to stay in March. Or, if I had Vacation Points valid to use in July, I could book in February to stay in July.

For most Members, this comes into play when they have Vacation Points set to expire and they cannot find availability. While you cannot book and travel during those last four months, you can deposit those Vacation Points into the RCI system which extends their life by an additional 2 years. You can use those points to book a stay at one of the hundreds of locations around the world with RCI!

To book a room with the Disney Collection, you’ll need to call Member Services for assistance. I hope this helps and I hope you find the perfect accommodation for your family!

    Wishing you Membership Magic!
