I have a vacation package for Dec 4-11. I have 3 grandchildren ages 2-4-6. I am thinking about buying tickets to "Very Merriest after hours". Do you think it is wise to buy tickets for the grandchildren considering the hours of the event?

    Hi Brenda! Welcome to planDisney.

Some of the most magical moments I've had at Walt Disney World Resort have been during Christmastime. There is so much festive fun to be had in all four theme parks, and the seasonal decorations and treats are truly spectacular. Plus, my very favorite characters - Santa's Christmas Reindeer - bust out the most jingle-jamming moves south of the North Pole!

The Disney Very Merriest After Hours event is brand new for 2021, so I can't speak from experience, but I have attended Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party with my Mouseketeers in past years. I think the answer to your question really depends on your sweet grandkids' ability to party into the evening hours. My son was 6 when he first attended the party, and he was WIPED out by 11:00 p.m. I know lots of people love these events and, especially with a late afternoon nap, their little ones can celebrate like Santa's elves. I just wouldn't want to see you spend a lot of money on a party you either leave early or find the children sleep right through.

Having said all that, if you decide to do it, here's my advice. Schedule your party on a rest day and spend that day with a fun character brunch (we love Chef Mickey's), some pool time, and a big nap in the late afternoon. Have strollers for all your Mousketeers (even the 6-year-old) - this will really help extend their ability to stay up and enjoy the party. Stake out a spot for the fireworks and parade early and let them snooze or zone out in the stroller.

Most importantly: have SO much fun! Do not miss the dance parties and live entertainment. Stop for lots of PhotoPass photos (there are so many Magic Shots available). Help yourselves to included snacks, and maybe treat yourself and the grandkids to one of the special featured party snacks. If you decide to purchase those tickets, please come back and see us and we'll help you make a Santa-style list of all the fun things to do!

Brenda, if you decide to pass on the party this year, you'll still be on the nice list. Each theme park features wonderful holiday decor and events - my family especially loves Disney's Hollywood Studios during the holidays. There will be merry magic everywhere you go! Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for more details as we get closer to the holiday season, and please come back and see us if we can help with more questions.

Wishing you a merry and magical vacation,
    Robyn
