how does the vacation club really work, my husband and I have looked into several times but we are still confused on the concept.

    Hi Naomi,

Disney Vacation Club is Disney's answer to a traditional time-share. Instead of purchasing a "week" like you do with many time-shares, with Disney Vacation Club you purchase Vacation Points. These points can be used throughout the year, and the number of Vacation Points you use for any vacation will vary. Your Vacation Points renew each year, so each year you get the same number of Vacation Points. You will pay yearly maintenance fees, which are on a per-point basis and vary by resort.

There are three main factors which will impact how many Vacation Points you need for a particular trip: time of year, resort, and size of accommodation.  For example, let's say you have 350 Vacation Points. You could spend one week in a three-bedroom grand villa at Disney's Old Key West Resort for 349 points during Adventure Season. Or you could spend one week in a one-bedroom villa at Disney's Beach Club Villas for 255 points during Dream Season, along with a long weekend in a lake-view deluxe studio at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort for 91 vacation points during Premier Season.

When you purchase your Disney Vacation Club membership, you will do so at a particular resort, which becomes your home resort. I recommend that you purchase at the resort you like the most, because you will have eleven months before your vacation to book that resort, and seven months ahead to book any other Disney Vacation Club resort.

I highly recommend that you take the Open House Tour when you are at Walt Disney World. During this tour you will see a model villa, as well as learn about Disney Vacation Club from a Vacation Guide. The Open House is amazingly low-pressure. You can book this by visiting any Disney Vacation Club kiosk at Walt Disney World, or by calling (877) 790-TOUR (877-790-8687).

I am limited in the amount of space that I have to answer, Naomi. Please do write back if you have any further questions!
