We usually stay at Deluxe resorts (Wilderness Lodge and Polynesian, once). This time, we have a new baby and are staying longer so we opted for Port Orleans Riverside. I am worried that we will be too far away from the parks! Can anyone soothe my fears?

I speak from experience when I tell you that Port Orleans Riverside is a great choice.  In fact, it's my personal favorite of all the moderate resorts.

While stays at the deluxe resorts do have a tendency to "spoil" any guest, the moderate resorts, too, have charm and plenty of perks.  Port Orleans Riverside boasts gorgeous grounds and quaint theming.  You may also appreciate the wide variety of quick service dining options; the deluxe resorts offer more limited fare.  And while the sit-down restaurant on-site at Port Orleans Riverside is not as popular as many of those found in the deluxe resorts, it does provide hearty menu offerings in close proximity to your resort room.

You will find decreased options for transportation at Port Orleans Riverside; they provide bus transportation to the parks and a ferry to Downtown Disney.  That said, you'll just want to provide a little extra time to get from one point to another, but that will hardly make or break your vacation.  You'll also notice that the beds in Disney's moderate resorts are scaled down from queen-size (like those featured in the deluxe resorts) to a double.

While there are definite differences between the deluxe resorts and the moderates, I am of the belief that Port Orleans is a delightful place to call "home".  While it is a large resort, the woodsy feel of it lends to an illusion of seclusion.  The dixie music that plays subtly throughout makes you feel as though you've stepped right into a simpler time.  And perhaps best of all is the gorgeous view of the Sassagoula River winding it's way through the resort and coaxing you to relax and enjoy.  I hope you enjoy your stay there as much as I always do!
