Usually I leave a tip for mousekeeping everyday because it could be a different person at the end of our stay than the rest of the time. Is a tip still appropriate now and how much since they only change towels and empty trash?

    Hi Deborah,

Thank you for stopping by planDisney with your thoughtful question about Mousekeeping services at the Disney Resort hotels.  I am going to answer with my opinion, so please keep in mind that tips are entirely up to the individual and are not required for Mousekeeping and will not affect the service you receive.

First, here is a link which details the Housekeeping Service before and during your Disney Resort stay.  You will notice that before you arrive, the cleaning of your room is now quite comprehensive and includes both vacuuming and steam cleaning the carpets and flooring.  There are many other added items for the enhanced cleaning prior to your arrival such as double wrapping pillows, cleaning and individually wrapping high touch items like remote controls, and comprehensively cleaning high touch areas such as door handles.  I work in a hospital and the amount of cleaning in between Guests is quite similar to what we call "terminal cleaning" after a patient is discharged and I have been so impressed and reassured about the level of cleaning between Guests.

So in my opinion, even though the Mousekeeper who does a light cleaning of my room every other day may not be the individual who did the comprehensive cleaning prior to my arrival, they are quite likely to have performed an in depth cleaning of someone else's room prior to their arrival.  I believe that even though we may not see Mousekeepers as much as we used to, they are working just as hard and likely even harder than before - it just is more backstage.  So I will continue to tip two to three dollars a day because I appreciate the level of cleaning that is done in between Guests and because we are all in this together.

I hope this helps you with your vacation planning Deborah.  Here is another link for Returning to a World of Magic which details further updated health and safety procedures at the Walt Disney World Resort.  Please stop by again if you have any further questions, we are always happy to help you plan your next Magical vacation!
