Ahoy there, Krista, and thanks for stopping by planDisney with this great question!
A
placeholder is not only one of the best ways to save money on a Disney Cruise, it’s one of the smartest ways to make sure you always have another magical voyage on the horizon. When you purchase a placeholder reservation while onboard a Disney Cruise Line sailing, you then have 24 months from the purchase date to complete your next cruise.
Keep in mind, that means your new sailing must begin within that two-year window, not just be booked during that time frame. Personally, I’ve found that this window provides the perfect amount of flexibility to choose the itinerary, ship, and stateroom category that works best for your crew. And if, for some reason, you can’t find the right timing and decide not to use your placeholder within those 24 months, Disney will refund your deposit back to your original form of payment.
My other not-so-secret tip for sailing like a princess without paying a king’s ransom is to check the ‘
Special Offers’ tab on the Disney Cruise Line website often. You’ll find everything from resident offers to sailings on so-called ‘last-minute’ cruises, meaning sailings that typically will take place within the next 3 months. If you can get to one of the featured ports easily, so can typically save around 20-30% off select itineraries.
So, Krista, you can feel confident that you have two whole years to plan your next adventure, whether that’s a relaxing Bahamian sailing, a thrilling European itinerary, or even a voyage on one of Disney’s newest ships like the Disney Treasure or the upcoming
Disney Destiny. Wherever you sail, Captain Mickey will be ready to welcome you back aboard when the time is right, and we’ll be right here at
planDisney to answer your next question when you do!
Embrace the magic,
Sami
