If I am using a magic band from 1.5 yrs ago and discover once I'm at the park that the battery is dead, can I buy a new one there and link it to my Disney experience?

Hi Brenda, and welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

Although MagicBands are most certainly reusable, and in the past I have brought several older bands with me and experienced no issues, I had a bit of trouble just this past weekend with a MagicBand that is not quite 2 years old.  Scanning at park entrances, FastPass+ queues, unlocking my Disney Resort Hotel room door, and tapping my MagicBand to charge purchases to my room account all worked just fine.  However, some of the long-range features, such as automagically linking my on-ride photos to my account did not work.  At many attractions, you can claim your Disney PhotoPass photos by tapping your MagicBand to the touchpoint, but several attractions do not have a photo preview area and the only way to connect your photos to your account is remotely through the MagicBand.

If you discover that your old MagicBand is not working, you will definitely be able to purchase a new one and easily link it to your account following the instructions inside the package.  I would guess that you might have a similar experience as I did; your MagicBand will probably work just fine for any touchpoint transactions.  I recommend checking your My Disney Experience account to see if your on-ride photos are linking automatically.  If not, you could then decide to purchase a new MagicBand.

I hope that helps!  Please stop by the Moms Panel again anytime with any additional questions you may have as you plan your Walt Disney World Resort vacation.  Enjoy!
