Hi there, Andrew!
Thanks so much for stopping by planDisney with your question. As a teen mom myself, I understand how they may want to enjoy different attractions at times. In fact, we just experienced this on our last Walt Disney World Resort vacation where our teen wanted to do something different than my younger ones for our Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane selection, so we ended up going to two different attractions. You have come to the right place, my friend!
Andrew, the great thing about
Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane selections is that your whole group does not have to do the same selections together. When you make the selection for the next available time, there is a step where everyone on your reservation, or connected in your Family & Friends list, will pop up. You can select which individuals will be going on that selection. If others want to do a different Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane selection, they certainly can as long as they are not booked for a Disney Genie+ selection already.
For example, let's say five members of your party want to choose the next available time for
Frozen Ever After for their Disney Genie+ selection, but two members want to select the next available time for
Test Track. You can go into Frozen Ever After, select which five people are going on that attraction and book it. Then, go into Test Track and select the next available time for the two members who would like this attraction and book it. Sometimes you can do things together or you can each do your own.
Now, anyone
over the age of 13 can have their own My Disney Experience account. I recommend the
teens create their own and download the app to their phones. They would then be able to
link their account to existing tickets, reservations, etc., as well as link to you and anyone else in the party on the My Disney Experience app via the Family & Friends list. This way, if they want to make their own Disney Genie+ reservations, assuming it has been purchased for them and their account is linked, if they are away from the group, they can do so. You can certainly still do it for them but they may prefer this option.
One thing I want to mention is that
Individual Lightning Lane attractions are different than Disney Genie+ attractions. Each park has one or two attractions that offer limited availability to Individual Lightning Lanes, and you purchase these separately. If you purchase one, it is specific for that attraction, which differs from Disney Genie+ in that you have numerous attractions to choose from once you purchase the Disney Genie+.
If you run into any trouble in the parks with Disney Genie+, be sure to stop by the Guest Experience Team (under the blue umbrellas) who will be most happy to assist you. If I can help with any further questions, stop back and
see me here at planDisney!
See ya real soon!
