Hi! We will be using the dining plan for dinner. However, if someone wants to only have a cup of soup for dinner, do they have to use a meal credit? Can we pay cash for that part of the bill?

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Renee!

I’m so happy to hear you’ve chosen to add the Disney Dining Plan to your Walt Disney World Resort vacation package. I hope you’re having so much fun drooling over menus and thinking about all the marvelous meals, delicious drinks, and scrumptious snacks you’re going to enjoy during your visit! YUM!

One of the reasons I love being on the Disney Dining Plan is the flexibility to use my dining entitlements in the way that works best for my family. When you sit down to dine at a Table-Service restaurant, your server will ask if you’re on a Disney Dining Plan, and they will be able to help you determine what’s included and make recommendations (I love hearing Disney Cast Members’ advice!). One time, we were dining at Olivia’s Café, and my daughter, who was still considered a child on the Disney Dining Plan, wanted an adult portion of the Slow-Cooked Prime Rib (it’s so good). Our server suggested that we pay out of pocket for her meal since she couldn’t use a child’s meal entitlement for an adult entrée, and we didn’t want to use one of our entitlements on that meal. That worked really well for us, and she was thrilled to enjoy that delicious dinner! In your situation, just let your server know that you’d like to pay out of pocket for the soup, and you’ll then receive two checks – one for your Disney Dining Plan meals, and one for the out-of-pocket item. You'll be welcome to pay using cash, credit card, Disney Gift Card, or by using your MagicBand to charge it back to your resort room folio.

Renee, if you have any further questions, please come see us again. As you dream about your visit, be sure to read the Disney Parks Blog – they highlight delicious dining options all around the theme parks, resorts, and Disney Springs, and I love to keep a list of all my must-try snacks, sips, and bites. Enjoy!

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
    Robyn
