I am using my birth certificate for boarding on a closed loop cruise (Disney Dream) but my last name has been legally changed. If I bring the certified court order for the name change will that be acceptable with my birth certificate?

Ahoy, Donna! I am glad you sailed by planDisney as you plan your adventure aboard the Disney Dream. The Dream was my family's first cruise ship, and it holds a very special place in my heart. So many magical memories!

For a closed-loop cruise in the United States, you will need to provide proof of citizenship, which can include a passport or other documents such as a birth certificate and a government-issued photo ID. I checked with a Cast Member to make sure I had all the details for your question and was told that your government-issued photo ID should be in your current legal name, matching the name on the reservation. With a driver's license in your current name and a birth certificate with your maiden name, you should not need any additional documentation. There is an opportunity in the pre-arrival online check-in to provide a court order if you need it; however, it should not be necessary for a name change because of marriage.

You can complete the online check-in just about a month before your cruise, depending on your Castaway Club level. I prepare for this ahead of time to get all the required documents and security photos ready to upload. Once completed, I set the documents aside so I can easily find them when it's time to pack.

With the paperwork in order, it's time to focus on the fun! Disney Cruise Line vacations are not just for kids. An afternoon in the Senses Spa Rainforest Room will have you floating on air! Even thinking about the heated lounge chairs has me melting. I can feel the ahhhh! The only regret I have from my first time aboard the Disney Dream was not dining at Palo. We tried this on a later cruise, and I wished I hadn't missed an opportunity to savor it all before.

You can log in to your cruise reservation and the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app to find all the important dates, including your online check-in and activity booking dates for Palo, spa services and Port Adventures.

Donna, I hope this information helps, and your cruise is all clear skies ahead! If you have any other questions, we are always happy to help at planDisney.

    SEAS the Adventure!
