I have used traditional fastpass prior, and as long as you used it AFTER the start time, it worked even if not within the "end" time. Is that still true? In other words, if my fastpass window is 1:00-2:00, can i use my fastpass at 3:00?

    Hi Scott,

The rules are much more strictly enforced with the new FastPass+ system. Other than a grace period of a few minutes, you must use your FP+ during your official return time window.

Under the old "legacy" paper FASTPASS scheme, it was somewhat up to the cast member at the attraction about whether to honor a FASTPASS. The unofficial rule for a long time was that as long as you show up any point after the start of your FP time, then the cast member would let you in.

The FastPass+ system is automated. You put your MagicBand or card on the RIFD reader touchpoint at each attraction and Mickey glows green if you're within your return window and blue if you are not. This is a signal to the cast member and to other guests that you should not enter because you are not within your return time hour. A cast member might fudge and let you in if you missed your time by five minutes or so, but otherwise you will be denied entry.

On the plus side, with FastPass+ you are now able to reschedule your return times. Under the old system, you had no choice of return window and had no way to regenerate a FP if you missed your return slot. With FP+ you can schedule your return times so that they don't interfere with meals or other planned activities. Also, if you end up missing a return window due to transportation issues, temporary illness, etc., you can use your computer, smart phone, tablet, or in-park kiosk to select a new FP+ time (pending availability).

Once you get the hang of it, the new system is pretty easy. I've had good luck with it myself.
