Ayannah from CA Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

I upgraded my SoCal 3-Day pass that I bought in January to a Magic Key Pass in April. Why does my magic Key expire in January? It was not active at that time and I am losing out on 4 months of pass time.

Hi there, Ayannah! Thanks for bringing your great question to planDisney.

Upgrading a Disneyland Resort theme park ticket to Magic Key Pass is a great way to experience magic at the theme parks throughout the year. With Pixar FestHalloween Time at the Disneyland Resort, and Plaza de la Familia at Disney California Adventure Park going on now or coming soon, there is so much to look forward to!

Ayannah, when upgrading a theme park ticket to a Magic Key Pass, the Magic Key expiration date will be a year from the first day the original theme park ticket was used. So, in your situation, since the ticket was first used in January 2024, your Magic Key Pass will expire in January 2025. You can read more about this on the Ticket Upgrades section of the Disneyland Resort website.

Ayannah, I know that might not be the answer you hoped for but I hope you will make the most of being a Magic Key holder. From discounts on select food and merchandise to occasional Magic Key-exclusive swag, it makes the Disneyland Resort feel like a home away from home. Be sure that your Magic Key is loaded into your Disneyland Mobile App so that you have access to select discounts and the Magic Key Portal. Also, I recommend following the Disneyland Magic Key Instagram for updates and announcements!

If you have any more questions about Magic Key passes or anything else, please let me know. I am happy to help!

    See you in the parks,
    Melissa
