Hi Dedra,
Welcome to planDisney! Thank you for stopping by with a question!
Generally, as long as there is availability for the dates of your visit, you should be able to upgrade to a preferred room. If you have not done so, create a
My Disney Experience account and
link your confirmation number to that account. Once linked, you can log into My Disney Experience, check My Plans, and make modifications to your reservation. Just click on the link to Change Reservation.
In the past, since we were always on a budget, I would consider whether or not we could afford the preferred room. Now, if we are staying a resort hotel with preferred rooms, I often choose the preferred room because they are closer to the main building at the resort. When we are headed to the main pool, the shop(s), or dining, being in a preferred room is fantastic, especially since some resort hotels are incredibly expansive.
As you continue to plan, take a look at a resort map online. We always indicate room preferences when doing
online check-in. And when we get our room alert notice on the day of arrival, I double-check the room assigned to make sure it is where we have requested.
In looking at your arrival dates, I hope you have also made
Disney Park Pass system reservations. Although it might seem early, I suggest you go ahead and make them. If you elect to make changes later, always check the
theme park reservation availability calendar before canceling a reservation to make a new one. As the countdown begins, keep your eye on the
operational updates since policies and procedures could change before your visit.
Dedra, I hope you have seen the most exciting news! Your visit will happen soon after the launch of
The World's Most Magical Celebration. So stay tuned for details to come in the
Disney Parks Blog!
Magic and memories,
Donyell
