Hi! I want to upgrade my Magic Key pass to a higher one on 5/20 (sale). I know I have to go to the ticket booth in order to do this. I already made a reservation for the parks that day. If I upgrade the same day will this mess up my reservation?

    Hi there, Sheryl!

Can you feel the magic in the air? It's a very exciting time around here as Inspire and Believe Magic Keys are set to go back on sale tomorrow, May 20th! For frequent visitors of the Happiest Place on Earth, Magic Keys are a great way to maximize time spent in the parks, complete with pixie-dusted perks!

It sounds like you are very familiar with the ins and outs of owning a piece of the magic. I hope you have been enjoying your key so far! Once the keys go on sale tomorrow, Guests with Enchant or Imagine Keys are eligible to upgrade their current keys to the Believe or Inspire by visiting the ticket booths in person in the Main Entrance Esplanade. At that point, you will be asked to pay the difference in full. Note that your renewal date will stay the same for this new key as it was for your original key, and some Guests like to consider this when thinking about upgrading. In terms of your current theme park reservation, each Magic Key has its own pool of reservations for each day that they are valid, so you are correct that you would forgo your current reservation when making the upgrade. It does look like this week is a popular one, as May 20th is currently booked for all Magic Keys. That's not to say something will not open up, as Guests are always changing their plans, but there would be no guarantee. I realize that's a bit of a disappointment and likely not the news you were hoping to hear.

You could consider using your Magic Key to enjoy your day tomorrow and upgrading later in the day when you plan to head out of the parks. Of course, if you have your heart set on enjoying the 70th Anniversary nighttime spectaculars, this plan may not work for you, but it's just a thought! The ticket booths are typically open one hour before the parks open until about one hour after the parks close. I would recommend checking the Park Hours for the day, and possibly double-checking with a Cast Member on your way in for the exact hours that day. One other consideration with this plan is that there will be a limited number of keys available, so there is a chance that if sales are popular that day that they would be paused again before you can upgrade.

It sounds like it may also be helpful to call the Magic Key Guest Services team to discuss your situation directly and see if there are any other options for you. While I know the ins and outs of the Disneyland Resort like the back of my hand, I do not have visibility into your specific account, and they may be able to provide further guidance.

Sheryl, I do hope this is helpful ahead of your park day tomorrow! I was just at Disneyland last week to get a sneak peek of all there is to enjoy for the 70th Anniversary, and let me tell you, you are in for a treat! Don't sleep on Tapestry of Happiness at "it's a small world" ahead of the Paint the Night Parade! I wasn't sure what to expect with this new offering, and I absolutely loved this projection show filled with music, bright animations, and a ton of nostalgia. I am a fan of Mary Blair, so this was as visually stunning as it was joyful!

I'm wishing upon a star that you will get to enjoy your park day tomorrow and an upgrade to a new Magic Key! If you have any more questions, stop by to see us again here at planDisney. We are always happy to help a fellow Guest find a way to the magic.
