we would like an upgrade as we have booked a studio at OKW,our son has recently been diagnosed with diabetes type1 and we feel he would benefit from more space rather than sharing with his 5 year old sister-am I better to do this now or wait till we arrive

    Hi Jacqueline,

Thank you for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.  Disney's Old Key West Resort is one of my favorite resorts.  I love the laid-back and low-key vibe there.

I have good news for you - Disney's Old Key West Resort has very spacious villas.  At each size - a deluxe studio or a one-, two-, or three-bedroom villa, they are quite large.  I certainly understand if you want to move from a deluxe studio to a one-bedroom villa.  We have stayed in one-bedroom villas at Disney's Old Key West Resort, and they are huge.  I am not exaggerating when I say that the one-bedroom villa I stayed in there was bigger than my first apartment!

I would suggest that you call to change your reservation as soon as possible.  This way, you have a much better chance of the villa that you want being available.  If you wait until you arrive, you might find that the larger villas are all booked.  Of course, that is a possibility now as well, but if you try to change your reservation now, at least you will know if there are none available.  You should be prepared to pay the difference in price between the original reservation and the new one, whether that be in Vacation Points if you booked as a Disney Vacation Club member or with a credit card if you booked using a traditional payment method.  To make a change in your reservation, you should use the same method that you used to book.  If you booked as a Disney Vacation Club Member, call member services at 1-800-800-9800.  If you booked through Disney, call 407-W-DISNEY (407-934-7639).

I hope that these thoughts are helpful for you, Jacqueline.  Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
