So I have my upcoming trip coming up and I just remembered that I will need the fast pass how would that work? Can I purchase that on the day of or now? I also keep seeing things on Genie+ but I don’t understand on how that works either?

Hey Howdy Hey Mindy and welcome to planDisney!

Oh boy Mindy, in just a few short days it looks like you will be on your way to the Most Magical Place on Earth for a vacation full of Magical memories! I am so glad to hear you are thinking ahead and did remember the FastPass situation. This one can stress a lot of Disney goers out, but Hakuna Matata Mindy, let's review this as well as the new Genie+ option so we can set your mind at ease and excited for your upcoming trip!

OK, so first off about these FastPasses. Long story short, the FastPass system is a thing of the past and now we have the new Genie+ service that took its place. With Genie+, you can summon your Genie from your My Disney Experience app to book Lightning Lane attractions which are similar to FastPass return windows. With the Genie+ selection, you have a wide variety of options throughout all four theme parks to choose from and on the Genie+ site, you can see all of your options in each park listed at the bottom of the page

Starting on June 8th, Disney Guests will not be able to make advanced Genie+ purchases and will only be able to make them on the day of their day in the park. Guests staying at a Disney Resort Collection hotel will be able to do this starting at 7:00 a.m. EST as well as make their first Lightning Lane selection. The app will tell you when you will be able to make your next one, but in short, you can make it either 2 hours after or when you redeem your first Lightning Lane selection.

One small caveat with Lightning Lanes is the specific attractions in the parks. With the most very popular attractions, such as the newly opened Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT, you can purchase Individual Lightning Lane reservations. These very popular attractions are not available in the standard Genie+ option and are a separate purchase. The site will have the most up-to-date information on which attractions will qualify for which option as well. These will also be available starting at 7:00 a.m. EST for Guests staying at a Disney Resort Collection hotel.

Most of the attractions in the parks will also have the option for the standard stand-by line you can wait in so if you are unable to get the Lightning Lane or Individual Lightning lane reservations you can opt for the stand-by. The only attraction currently where it is not an option is Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind as this will be either the Individual Lightning Lane purchase or virtual queue with times to get in the queue available at either 7:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. EST. Instructions for getting into the virtual queue will be available on your My Disney Experience app.

You still do have plenty of time to look into Genie+ and all of the options available, so take your time and stop back with any questions you may have. Best of luck with the continued planning and let us know if we can help with any other questions!

    Have a Magical Day,
