Michelle from CA Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

I have an unused 5 day Disneyland ticket that I would like to upgrade to Magic Key. It looks like the only way to apply my ticket is to visit the Ticket Booth at Disneyland. I live too far away for that, is there another way to upgrade when not on site?

Hi Michelle! Welcome to planDisney! You are going to LOVE being a Magic Key Holder as it opens the doors to so many wonderful (and magical!) benefits. Just picture your Disneyland Resort days sprinkled with all kinds of pixie dust!

Now let's get you the keys to this kingdom! I spoke to the Guest Services team and you are correct that to upgrade from a multi-day ticket to a Magic Key, it must either be done in person at the Main Entrance Ticket Booth once you arrive or within the app once you have scanned into the parks. A ticket must be "in-use" to upgrade. There are a few caveats here I do want to go over that may help you in planning the right time to upgrade. As you likely know, all Guests currently need both a theme park ticket as well as a theme park reservation to enter the parks. When you make theme park reservations with your multi-day tickets, those reservations do not transfer over once you upgrade to a Magic Key. Availability differs depending on ticket type. I would hate for you to upgrade at the start of your trip and lose your reservations, so my recommendation is to upgrade on the very last day of your trip after you have scanned into the park unless you can see that the theme park availability is in the clear for your dates or talk to a Cast Member at the Main Entrance Booth to confirm.

Upgrading to a Magic Key from the app is a piece of cake! Once you've scanned into the park on that last day, open the app and follow the instructions for the upgrade. Currently, Guests are able to choose from either the Enchant Key or the Imagine Key (for California residents). With a few quick clicks, that key is yours!

With all the benefits of a Magic Key Holder open to you, it's time to celebrate! Enjoy discounts at most of your favorite shops and restaurants, gain access to the Magic Key Terrace in Disney California Adventure Park, and even purchase special collectibles and keepsakes. You'll also be able to tap into the Magic Key Portal in the app for up-to-date news and special content just for key holders. One of my favorite perks is the custom Magic Key Holder embroidery offered at select locations like The Mad Hatter on Main Street, U.S.A in Disneyland Park. Embroider your Mickey Ears or even a spirit jersey with the Magic Key logo to commemorate this special day!

I know this is in just a few days, but if you can swing it, February is Magic Key Holder Celebration Month! Even more ways to enjoy that key will be at your fingertips, including special photo ops, merchandise, menu items, and more! I'm even hopping a plane from Philly to be part of the celebration!

Michelle, I know this was a lot to take in and maybe not the answer you were hoping for but I sure hope you found it helpful. No matter when you decide to visit, there is so much magic waiting for you at the Happiest Place on Earth! Feel free to pop by any time to ask me or my fellow panelists any questions - we are always here for you at planDisney!

    Keep wishing on those stars,
