Can I unpair a band that I assigned to myself so that my husband can use it for himself?

Hi Brenda! Thank you so much for stopping by planDisney with your question. MagicBands are such a convenient part of a Walt Disney World vacation, so it makes total sense to wonder whether one can be reassigned once plans change. I'm glad you asked before relying on it at the parks!

Unfortunately, once a MagicBand has been linked to a specific Guest, it can't be transferred to someone else. MagicBands are permanently associated with the person they were originally assigned to in My Disney Experience, and that link goes deeper than just a name on a reservation. Each band is tied directly to that Guest's account and biometric information, which is what allows it to work seamlessly for park entry, Lightning Lane access, and other features throughout the resort. Because of this, there's no way to unlink a band and reuse it for another person, even within the same family.

I know that can be a little disappointing, especially if the band is still in great condition or barely used. The good news is that your husband has plenty of other easy options. He can link his own MagicBand or MagicBand+ to his profile, use Disney MagicMobile through the My Disney Experience app on his phone or smartwatch, or pick up a complimentary Key to the World card from the front desk of his Disney Resorts Collection hotel or Guest Relations. All of these work just as smoothly for park entry and Lightning Lane access.

While MagicBands themselves are nontransferable, they still make great keepsakes from past trips, and many Guests like to save them as souvenirs or bring them back if they're still linked to the same person for future visits.

Brenda, I hope this helps clear things up and makes planning just a little bit easier. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reach back out to us here at planDisney. Have a very Happy New Year!

    Warm hugs,

    Ana Paula
