Hi ya, Glenn!
Welcome to planDisney! Technology is a huge part of what makes Disney magic possible, but I know that sometimes it can be a little difficult to manage. No worries! I'll channel my inner Imagineer and we'll have you ready to hit the parks.
You are correct that the My Disney Experience App has slightly different functionality and terminology than the Disneyland Mobile App. I would recommend that you open My Disney Experience and "Deactivate" your MagicBand+ in that app (although deactivating it usually isn't totally necessary) then completely close that app before you
add your bands to the Disneyland Mobile App.
A mobile device can only handle so much pixie dust at a time and my experience is that I have a lot more success with the apps when I make sure only the one I'm using is running. I actually uninstall one of the apps when I'm not at that resort, just so I don't open the wrong one by accident!
You can link your
MagicBand+ to the
Disneyland Mobile App by following these steps:
- Open the main menu and select "MagicBand+"
- Tap the "+" sign in the top right corner to link a new MagicBand+
- Tap the "Open Scanner to Link"
It sounds like you've used MagicBand+ before, so you know it's a good idea to make sure your band is charged before pairing it with your phone. It's also likely that your band will want to do a quick software update when you link it to the app, so plan to be somewhere with strong internet when you pair it the first time. I try to do this at home or in our hotel before we head to the parks.
I love the surprise moments at the parks when my MagicBand+ lights up and makes me part of the park! One of my favorite interactions happens as you exit the Haunted Mansion and the Ghost Host sends you a last little nudge to remind you to "Hurry Baaaaack" again soon. And the bands are a total party during
World of Color - Season of Light!
Glenn, I hope these tips help you get your bands linked up and ready for adventure!
Keep moving forward!
Amanda
