Hi, unfortunately a family emergency has occurred where we cannot make our reservation date. We don't know the next time we can make it to Disney World, what can we do? I see an option to move the date but right now we don't know the date.

Hi Zane, I'm sorry to hear about your family emergency.

My first suggestion is to check the cancellation policy of your Walt Disney World vacation.  The policy will vary from a room-only reservation and a Disney Vacation Package reservation.

When you book a Disney Vacation Package, you can cancel your reservation without penalty 30 or more days before your arrival date. However, reservations cancelled inside the 30-day window are subject to a $200 cancellation fee (subject to change). If you cancel the day before your arrival, the full price of your package is non-refundable.  There are no cancellation fees for room-only reservations as long as you cancel 5 days or more before your arrival.

If you are within your cancellation window, you might want to consider modifying your reservation out a month or two, or whenever you think might be a convenient time to reschedule. Once your family emergency settles down, you can reassess the dates you chose to see if it would work for you.  If not, you can modify again or cancel at that time.

You may be able to modify or cancel your reservation online in the "My Plans" section of My Disney Experience.  If you do not see the cancellation link, you can reach out to Disney Hotel Resort Reservations for cast member assistance.  Additionally, you will need to modify or cancel advanced Dining Reservations you may have made.

Thank you for reaching out to planDisney, Zane! We hope to see you again real soon!
