Hi! My understanding is that we have to link the magicbands to a debit/credit card to use them as money, but if I then pay off what we spent each night at the hotel via prepaid travel card, does that mean nothing will be taken from the linked debit card?

Welcome to planDisney, Jennifer! I'm so glad to hear that you're planning on visiting Walt Disney World Resort right as the holiday season is kicking off. It's my favorite time of year to visit as the Theme Parks and Disney Resorts Collection hotels are sprinkled with that extra bit of pixie dust that makes the festive season so special.

Jennifer, you are right on the money about how charging to your MagicBand+ works. When you check in to your Resort Hotel, you will set up a preferred payment method to use for any charges that you make to your room. At that time, a $100 authorization hold will be placed on your card to make sure that it's working properly and can cover any incidental expenses. As you make charges with your MagicBand+, they will be added to your room folio and not charged directly to your card in real-time. If your spending exceeds that original $100 hold, additional incremental holds may be charged, but they will not exceed the total of your balance plus $100.

Depending on the length of your stay, your card will be charged for the balance of your room folio either on the day you check out or the fifth day of your stay, whichever comes first. If you're staying for a nice long extended trip, your balance will be cleared and your card will be charged every five days. If you are planning on paying off your balance each night using a Disney Gift Card or another method, then no charges will be made to your card and the authorization holds will be cleared within a few days of your check out. At any time, you can check the balance of your room folio using the My Disney Experience app or get an itemized printout from the Front Desk. A friendly Disney Cast Member will be happy to help!

I hope this answers your question, Jennifer, and please let us know if there's anything else we can do to help you plan your magical vacation.
