We understand with Fastpass+ you can pre-select up to 3 attractions ahead of time and must use ALL 3 before being able to request any new ones. Does this rule apply when you select Fastpass+ for the evening shows such as Fantasmic too?

Hi Lori! Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

Yes, you are correct - you may select your first three FastPass+ reservations at the same Walt Disney World theme park, and when they are all used, you can start making further selections, one at a time, at any park, either using your My Disney Experience mobile app, or by visiting the FastPass+ Kiosks located around the theme parks. This applies to all FastPass+ choices, including all attractions, entertainment and shows, so if you have a FastPass+ reservation for the evening, you cannot make any more selections for that day, until after the evening FastPass+ has expired. My suggestion, if you want to see Fantasmic! without using one of your FastPass+ options, is to book a Fantasmic! Dining Package, which gives you the choice of dining at one of a choice of three restaurants before the show, and your seating at the show is guaranteed within a reserved section, for no extra cost, and no use of your FastPass+ allocation, and you don't need to arrive until around 40 minutes prior to showtime. If you are planning on dining at Disney's Hollywood Studios anyway, this is a great way to utilise your time at the park - dinner, less waiting time, and guaranteed seats! This also saves one your FastPass+ selections for another attraction earlier in the day. The choice of restaurants is Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano, Hollywood & Vine or The Hollywood Brown Derby, and some Disney Dining Plans are accepted at all three restaurants.
