I understand that captioning devices are available for Jungle Cruise, but cast members ad lib much of the ride. Is it possible to request additional live captioning accommodations to ensure that all of what is said is captioned accurately for a deaf rider?

    Hi Talia,

Thank you for bringing your important question to planDisney! I hope your family is getting excited for your special Walt Disney World vacation coming up. I’m proud to share that inclusion is one of Disney’s core values, and there are many services available to ensure you have the most magical, and accessible, experience in the theme parks possible. On the opening day of Disneyland, Walt Disney said "to all who come to this happy place, welcome" and that sentiment rings true today. Everyone, of every ability, is welcome as can be at Disney Parks.

You are correct that the Jungle Cruise is one of the many attractions supported by Handheld Captioning on Disney’s Handheld Captioning Devices which display on-screen text. I spoke with a Cast Member today on your behalf, as I understand wanting to react to the real-time puns and jokes that a Jungle Cruise Skipper may ad lib beyond the regular script. They advised that when you are in Magic Kingdom Park, please stop by Guest Relations to inquire about special accommodations that may be provided for you – either just for this attraction experience or for more of your full day in the park.

Talia, I'm sensitive to the fact that not every deaf person uses American Sign Language (ASL) but I would be remiss if I didn’t share additional important information with you. If ASL interpretation services is something that would help you or your family member, there is a special team that you can reach out to in advance of your visit. A schedule of interpreters, per theme park, is available and changes weekly. While they primarily focus on supporting live shows, they may be able to accommodate you for the Jungle Cruise experience if you ask. The email for Sign Language Interpretation Services is on this page, and you may also inquire at your Disney Resort or Guest Relations when you arrive at the Walt Disney World Resort. I’m told there is currently no fee for these services, but of course availability and price is always subject to change. This special team is not only knowledgeable with ASL but also deaf culture and can help guide you to the best experience for your family.

Please see this full list of services available for Guests with hearing disabilities, including the specific lists of attractions for both Audio Description and Handheld Devices

I’m hopeful that your family receives some special pixie dust to enhance your enjoyment of the world famous Jungle Cruise! There’s nothing like seeing a loved one laugh, and experiencing that joy together is the pure magic of a Walt Disney World vacation.

Please bring us any other questions you have as you finalize this special trip.

Wishing you the best day ever!
