    Being from the UK we do not tip as frequently as you do in the states, are we expected to tip the person that shows us to our hire car at the airport? thank you

    In my experience, Carol, rental car agencies at the airport allow customers to choose their own car from a predetermined section, or row, of vehicles.  You will likely not be shown to your car.  Rather, someone will assist you at the counter with your paperwork before directing you to the garage to choose your car.  I've never tipped the person behind the counter.  A general rule of thumb that might be helpful for you to remember is that anytime someone assists you with your bags, the customary tip for that service is $1-$2 per bag, but tipping the rental car representative isn't necessary.  I hope that clears things up a bit!
