what types of clothes should I pack for a july cruise to alaska. Short pants, long pants, etc. thanks

    Welcome aboard, Marjorie!

Your Alaskan voyage is coming up really soon, and I'm sure excitement is in the air as you and your family do your countdown.

Cruising in Alaska in July will still bring the cool winds while up on deck and while at port adventures. It is highly advisable to dress in layers to keep you warm & comfortable. When my family sailed to Alaska (also in July), it was mild and cool weather during the day, and pretty cold and brisk in the evenings. We were all in long pants, and I made sure to pack warm accessories as well. When you go out on Port Adventures, depending on the type of adventure you choose, you might even need to wear thick snow jackets and water proof boots. Most of our port adventures were family friendly sight seeing tours in all the ports - so we were fine with our warm boots (sneakers worked OK too), long pants, long sleeve shirts and a jacket (similar to those wind breaker types). I always packed gloves, a warm scarf and a hat, since the mornings can get really cold especially if a cool breeze comes along. When we were cruising through Tracy Arm, it was gorgeous to be out on the top Deck and on Deck 4 to enjoy the awesome views. It will get cool, even if you stand under the sun. I don't think I saw very many people wearing shorts...

It's definitely a different type of cruise, compared to the usual warm weather voyages out to the Bahamas, Caribbean or around Europe. Here are some tips about what to pack for an Alaskan voyage from my fellow cruise mom, Nancy.

Stay comfy and warm to enjoy the beautiful outdoors while in Alaska, Marjorie. I hope this helps! Have an awesome time exploring the last frontier with Captain Mickey.

    Bon voyage!
