Hi Janice and welcome to planDisney. How exciting it must be to be planning your very first visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth. With four theme parks, two water parks, Disney Springs, and countless dining and entertainment options, there is so much to see and do. Best of all, Disney World is truly designed for all ages, so no matter your interests, you’ll find plenty to enjoy.
You’ve raised two excellent questions, and both deserve thoughtful consideration. I may only be able to cover one in this answer, so let’s start with what I believe is most important: selecting the right
Disney Resorts Collection hotel to call home. The good news is that there isn’t a wrong choice. The challenge, though, is how many options you have. The even better news is that there’s something for every budget and every vacation style.
Disney Resorts are grouped into three main categories: Value, Moderate, and Deluxe. The differences between them usually come down to price, proximity to the parks, amenities, and dining options.
If you’re looking at the Value category, I suggest
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. It features Family Suites, immersive Disney movie theming, and access to the Disney Skyliner, which makes getting to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios a breeze.
In the Moderate category,
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is a personal favorite. It has a relaxed tropical vibe that feels like a beach vacation at the resort and then transforms into a Disney vacation when you step into the parks. It’s also the hub of the Skyliner, giving you quick and convenient transportation.
For Deluxe resorts, it’s hard to beat the
EPCOT resort area. Disney’s Beach Club, Yacht Club, and BoardWalk Inn give you easy walking access to EPCOT and even Hollywood Studios. The atmosphere around Crescent Lake in the evenings is something special. If Magic Kingdom is where your heart is set, then Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa or Disney’s Contemporary Resort are both classics that put you just steps away from the park entrance.
As for your itinerary, I’d recommend setting aside at least one day in each of the four theme parks so you have the chance to experience the highlights and soak in the nighttime shows, which are the perfect way to end your evenings. Be sure to book at least one character breakfast, with Chef Mickey’s being one of the most popular options. Plan on enjoying at least one table-service meal inside the parks as well. Dining at places like Cinderella’s Royal Table, Be Our Guest, Hollywood Brown Derby, Space 220, or Tusker House not only gives you a chance to enjoy some fantastic food but also lets you slow down and recharge during a busy park day. I’d also recommend purchasing the Lightning Lane Multi Pass so you can spend less time waiting in line and more time experiencing attractions. Don’t forget to plan a little downtime to enjoy your resort, whether it’s lounging at the pool, strolling the grounds, or simply relaxing with a meal at your hotel. And when you visit EPCOT, make sure you carve out time to eat and drink your way around World Showcase. It’s one of the most unique experiences Walt Disney World has to offer.
If you’d like to swing back by and submit another question, I’d be glad to help you structure your park days, give tips on navigating each park, or share some dining recommendations.
Your personal Genie,
Brent
