Hi there, Marianne!
Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I am so excited you sailed by with your question about your upcoming Disney Cruise Line vacation. If you are thinking about packing, then I am hopeful that your voyage is just around the corner! I always say I am going to be packed WAY AHEAD of time, but that never ends up being the case and I find myself being a last-minute packer. Luckily, if you find you’ve forgotten something, most things can be found in one of the
onboard shops!
While you are certainly able to bring two-way radios onboard with you, be advised that they often will not work since the entire ship is made of metal, causing “dead zones” hindering communication between them. My boys have brought onboard a pair of walkie-talkies and were able to communicate briefly between the two but found they didn’t work more than they did! But, certainly bring them if you’d like to! If you are trying to determine a way to communicate with others while onboard, there are two wavephones in each stateroom that can be used to message or call one another while onboard. Additionally, the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator app has a chat feature on it that you can message one another and does not require an internet package to use as it connects to the onboard DCL-GUEST WiFi network. The app also has lots of handy information such as deck plans, menus and a full schedule of events and activities, so I highly recommend downloading it your smartphones prior to your adventure at sea!
As your planning – and packing – continues, please stop by with any other questions you may have!
Happy Sailing!
