I have two kids under 5 and they can't use paper straws. Are you allowed to take resusable, silicone/stainless straws to ALL Disney World theme parks? Is Animal Kingdom the exception? I don't want to buy more straws only to have them confiscated.

    Hi Erin,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Your visit to Walt Disney World Resort is less than a month away, and I know you and your sweet littles are counting down the days to the magic and fun! Hurray!

I am a huge supporter of The Walt Disney Company’s commitment to the environment and effort to reduce single-use plastics in the theme parks. On my family’s recent visit, we noted that plastic straws have been replaced with paper straws at most locations in the theme parks and resorts, and I left with a plan to bring reusable straws going forward because I don’t like the way the paper straws get soggy in many drinks.

Erin, the Walt Disney World Resort Park Rules prohibit the use of plastic straws at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park for the safely of the animals, but you’ll be fine bringing in reusable metal or silicone straws at all four theme parks. I don’t recommend bringing glass straws, as glass can cause a problem with security. You might want to consider bringing sippy cups or lidded tumblers for your under-fives, as lids are also available only upon request. On behalf of my friends Wall-E and Eve, I thank you for your efforts to bring reusable straws for your family – it’s a great big, beautiful tomorrow, and if we all take care of our planet, we’ll hopefully have many, many more!

There are some really cute Mickey-themed reusable straws for sale on ShopDisney, and I’ve seen them for sale in the theme parks too. My advice is to put together a small waterproof case with straws, a straw brush, and a small, travel-sized dish soap that you can take with you in your park bag; that way, you can wash out the straws after using them or at least toss them into the bag until you can wash them later. When you go through security, pull the case out and open it up to make the process smooth and easy.

I hope your family has many magical adventures this summer at Walt Disney World, Erin! There are so many ways to have fun in the sun this summer, and whether you’re dancing your paws off at the Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party, soaring through the air on Dumbo the Flying Elephant, or singing along with Anna and Elsa at For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration, you are going to make the best memories together.

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
    Robyn
