Hi! We have two boys ages 11 & 6 and are considering the Christmas party. How are the attraction wait times/crowd levels at the parties? We want to make the most of the attractions and the party extras/treats. Any tips to maximize would be great! Thx!

Hello there Kristin, I'd like to wish you a warm Canadian welcome to planDisney!

It looks like you've chosen one of my favourite times of the year for a visit, especially as so many fellow Canucks make that migration as the chilly weather starts to set in at home! In fact, there's just something surreal about visiting Walt Disney World Resort decked out for the holiday season so soon after Halloween! My husband and I did a lot of our Disney Wedding planning during this time last year and I can definitely provide you with a little personal insight and intel based on our observations so you can successfully strategize ahead of attending Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party:

    • One of the key things that could affect your overall experience is the date that you choose to go on, so I always recommend taking a look at the Event Dates carefully before purchasing your tickets. Generally, the closer that you get to Christmas the busier and more popular it can be - especially once you take into consideration when schools have their Winter Break in December.  (Another popular time for families to vacation is during American Thanksgiving which saw a lot of our standby wait times to double!)
    • When you take a look at the Special Event Ticket pricing you'll see that it fluctuates throughout the run of the event which directly correlates to how busy it felt in our experience. My personal rule of thumb is to aim for that sweet spot in the middle of the third week of November just after Remembrance Day or Veterans Day Weekend if you can.
    • If treats are your priority, I recommend keeping an eye out for this year's Disney Eats Foodie Guide that is typically published before the event starts so that you can check which items are exclusively sold after 7:00 p.m. during party hours and which ones you can enjoy earlier, since you can enter Magic Kingdom Park as early as 4:00 p.m. with your event ticket. These three hours are the most ideal time to hop on any attractions or meet Characters whose queues may open a little earlier before the party officially starts; the key is not using up any precious party time with anything you can otherwise experience during the day like the Jingle Cruise or the new Frozen Holiday Surprise show!
I hope that this helps you all out Kristin, I wish I had space to write more but feel free to come back to planDisney for any more tips and tricks - it's always a pleasure to help Canadians at Disney Destinations.

Here's to some wonderful wintery vibes in warmer weather!
