Hello! Two adults and one child... One of the adults is a bariatric patient and can't eat more than 3-4ounces at a time. Would like to do 2-3 character meals during our trip. Should we choose the dining plan or should we just pay as we go?

    Hi Denise,

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and thank you for asking us another question.

I'll admit that I’m not the biggest fan of the Disney Dining Plan, largely because I don’t have much of a sweet tooth and would rather skip desserts/snacks, yes, even when I’m in Walt Disney World Resort! I have several friends who’ve undergone bariatric surgery and they all say that the Disney Dining Plan is now consists of WAY too much for them to eat in one sitting. If you didn’t intend to do many character meals, then I would definitely advise you to pay for each meal as you go.

That being said, if you’re planning to do 2-3 Character Dining meals (which tend to be buffet/family style meals), I would compare the cost of one of those meals vs. the daily charge on the Disney Dining Plan. If you’re staying for a week, then the cost of the plan will still outweigh any individual day’s savings. But, if you’re staying for 5 or fewer nights, then the individual savings each day may add up to make the Disney Dining Plan worth it for your family. I recommend looking at the “calculators” that are available on sites like mousesavers.com if you want to do some number crunching to really make sure you’re getting the best deal for your family’s upcoming vacation.

Please don’t hesitate to come back and see us if you have any other questions!

    Have a Magical Day,
