We have a tween who is adamant about not going on certain rides; but they’re the rides we love. We are very hesitant about leaving her to wait outside the ride for us. Can she wait in line with us, then be escorted to the area that the riders exit from?

    Hey, howdy, hey, Amber!

I know just what you are going through. One of our children had strong anxieties when we wanted to experience The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror as a family. Fortunately, the Rider Switch service is available for just this sort of situation. Rider Switch, offered on select attractions, is usually thought of as being for guests who are not yet tall enough to experience an attraction. But it may also be used for any guest who doesn’t wish to ride an attraction. If another guest 14 years or older is available to wait with your tween, talk to a Cast Member at the entrance to the attraction to request to add a Rider Switch entitlement to the tickets of the supervising guest and up to two more guests to return to the attraction within a specified period. Then everyone who wishes may experience the attraction and your tween and a supervising guest can enjoy another activity in the meantime.

Your tween may wish to experience the sights and activities available within the queues of some attractions but not actually board the ride vehicle for the remainder of the attraction. Some that come to mind include Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. In those cases, your tween may choose to accompany your party within the attraction queue and then use an exit available before boarding the ride vehicle. Just ask a Cast Member at the boarding area for the attraction about exiting early.

Tony’s Tip: Download the free Play Disney Parks app for your mobile device. It’s a great way to pass the time in attraction queues. Star Wars: Datapad, included with Play Disney Parks, offers an immersive way to live your own Star Wars story, including in the queues for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (opening January 17, 2020).

Oh, and our daughter that didn’t like riding The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror? Well, she now loves Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! It’s her favorite attraction! Perhaps someday soon, your tween will be happy to join you on your favorite attractions as well.

    Have a magical time, Amber!
