Turns out we are planning our family trip to DW during my 38 bday (me, husband & 4 yr old girls). We are on a budget - I want my girls to get the most out of their trip. Wondering if there are any special bday things to do, esp if girls can enjoy.

    Hi Karen,

Walt Disney World is a wonderful place to celebrate a birthday, and a trip with your family is going to be special, no matter what. You don't have to spend a lot of extra money to add some birthday love.

First, make sure you note on your reservation that you are celebrating your birthday during this trip. (If you haven't done that already, you can add the note when you do online check-in). Such a note often will generate a birthday bonuw, such as a card from Mickey or a phone call in your room.

Also, be sure you get a free birthday button at your resort or at Guest Relations at any theme park. I'm sure your girls will get a kick out of hearing other guests and cast members offer you birthday greetings. Sometimes, the birthday boy or girl gets other magical surprises as well, no matter what their ages. Over the years, we've gotten extra desserts, birthday serenades and other special attention.

You also can order a birthday cake to enjoy during one of your Walt Disney World meals. The table service restaurants have them available at all times, no special order required, in white and chocolate. Just let your hostess know you would like one of the cakes when you are seated. The 6-inch cakes are about $25.

To order a custom cake that is personalized for you, call the Disney Cake Hotline at (407) 827-2253.

Here's another idea: Have your husband let each girl pick out a small gift for you in one of the Disney gift shops as a surprise. Again, you don't have to break the bank. There are lots of Disney souvenirs for less than $15.

Or let each of your daughters choose a show or attraction in your honor, something they think you will like to do.

If you are like me, the best gift is spending time with your family. Here's wishing you a magical celebration filled with lasting memories. Enjoy!
