I turned 21 this week, and my friends and I are planning on going to Disney to celebrate sometime next month. I live in Orlando so Disney is a second home, but is there anything maybe not as well-known you could suggest, at HS, Epcot, or Magic Kingdom?

    Hi Rachel,

    Happy Belated Birthday!

I really dig the idea of looking for some lesser-known experiences to enjoy with your friends. Let me throw out a few ideas and see if we can get the party started:

    Idea #1 - Guided Tours

While the guided tours aren't  state secrets, I think many guests just think of them as experiences that they "want to do someday."

My favorite guided tour is Disney's Keys to the Kingdom Tour. I'm like you and consider Walt Disney World a second home, but this tour opened my eyes to so many details and stories that I had never heard before. (Plus, you'll get to peek into the legendary Utilidors on this tour!)

Idea #2 - Special Dining Events

If you're a fan of the Hollywood Brown Derby, then you've probably seen the Bamboo Room tucked off in the far corner of the restaurant. It's usually used for private parties or to host VIPs, but you and your friends can have lunch in there if you try the Dining with an Imagineer experience.

You'll get to have lunch with an Imagineer who will tell you about his/her role in the theme parks. When I did it, I ate lunch with one of the Art Directors from the Magic Kingdom and he was a real hoot!

    Idea #3 - Seminars

Since the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is opening soon, you should check out some of the special seminars and demonstrations that are scheduled. Unfortunately, I think they're overlooked because it's easy to be blinded by the awesome food marketplaces.

Here's a bonus idea from your buddy Derek:

You didn't ask about Downtown Disney, but one of my favorite hidden gems is the Gospel Brunch at the House of Blues. The food is amazing and the show is so much fun.

I hope that helps! Please feel free to write back if you'd like a few more ideas to consider!

    Best regards,
    Derek
