I am trying to talk my husband into taking our 2 girls on a disney cruise. He is nervous because he gets sea sick, I am trying to tell him this will not happen on a cruise ship. Do you have any suggestions on ways I can convince him of this?

    Hi Michele,

This is a very common concern, and based on my personal experience - a valid one!  I wish I could tell you that sea sickness does not happen on a cruise ship, but unfortunately it is the nature of the beast.

Now that being said, this would never and has never discouraged me from cruising.  There are certainly things that you can do to alleviate the nausea or hopefully avoid it all together.

FIrst of all, choose your stateroom location wisely.  Try to choose a mid to aft location on a mid to lower deck.  The more forward you are the more motion you will feel.

Secondly, be prepared.  Talk to your doctor of pharmacist before you leave to discuss your options.  There are over the counter and prescription medications that work great a combating sea sickness.  On my most recent cruise I bought the Sea-Band bracelets but thankfully didn't even have to take them out of the package.

Lastly, I would suggest that you cruise in the calmer months.  Now of course the millon dollar question is "which ones are they", but this is impossible to forecast.  I will say that in my experience the roughest seas have been between September and early December.

I hope this helps, good luck!
