I am trying to plan a trip for my family the last week of July 2009. There will be 2 adults and 3 kids. (14,11,6) I know our biggest expence will be the airfare. How/where can I save on everything else?

    Kerry,

There are a lot of places to save money for this vacation. Here are a few.

    • Lodging: I am a fan of the Value resorts, but their rooms are for 4, not 5. So you will want to move up to a Moderate level resort. This will mean that all 5 of you can stay in 1 room (instead of having to get two), saving a lot of money! For you I recommend Port Orleans Riverside. I like the atmosphere for your kids, and the boat to Downtown Disney for evening recreation!
    • Dining: Check out the Disney Dining Plans. They save you a lot of money, though they may not pay for all your dining expenses. Study them to set your budget and make sure you account for all your dining expenses.
    • Transportation: Don't rent a car or spend on cabs or shuttles. Use the free Disney Magical Express to and from the airport, as well as in-Walt Disney World transportation.

Those are just the big picture items. Send me a follow-up question from my bio page with info on your family's interests and I will make some further suggestions for free or low-cost fun!

    Have a magical vacation!
