Trying to plan a trip to Disneyland. I already have the Disney world app. Can I use this for Disneyland or do I have to download a separate app for DL?

    Greetings to you, Janelle!

Thanks for coming to planDisney with your question. How exciting that you have a visit coming up this summer to the Happiest Place on Earth! When I was a child, no summer vacation would be complete without a visit to the Disneyland Resort. I'd drag my parents around the Park from open till close, trying to hit all the attractions that we could. So many core memories were formed back then!

It sounds like you already have experience with the My Disney Experience App, which is used throughout Walt Disney World. The Disneyland Resort does indeed have its own version of the app, called the Disneyland Mobile App. You will need to download this separate app for use here on the West Coast. They are similar in many respects, but there are some key differences:

    • There is no Family & Friends List in the Disneyland App. If you would like your entire party to be in one group, please link everyone's tickets under the "Tickets and Passes" section.
    • Disney MagicMobile is not a feature at the Disneyland Resort. Unless your party has MagicBand+, you will need to open the app to have your tickets scanned at the front gates and when redeeming Lightning Lanes.
    • Please note that only the MagicBand+ is supported at the Disneyland Resort. Older MagicBands will not work out here. You may have to temporarily unlink your MagicBand+ from any Walt Disney World accounts before successfully linking to the Disneyland Mobile App.
    • If you did not add the Genie+ option to your tickets at the time of purchase, you may not do so again until the day of your visit after your ticket is scanned. Either way, your first Lightning Lane reservation cannot be made until you enter the Parks, which is a difference from Walt Disney World.

Other features such as booking virtual queues, mobile food orders, and accessing Disney PhotoPass pictures are similar to the My Disney Experience app. I think it's like driving a right-sided Autopia vehicle. You know where everything is but it's just a little different!

I hope you take some time during your visit to admire the Disney100 Celebration decorations! Be sure to check out Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway and the newly redesigned Mickey's Toontown. Don't forget that you may now Park Hop as early as 11 a.m. as well. I know you're going to have a fantastic time!

Well, Janelle, I hope you found this information useful. I'm sure you'll be navigating around the Parks like a pro in no time! Feel free to come by planDisney again if you have any further questions!

Meet the Panelist: Al, California

Ahoy there from the heart of Steinbeck Country in central California! I've been visiting the Disneyland Resort since childhood and fell in love with the sense of absolute immersion that the Imagineers have achieved. My favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean because where else can you go from a California day to an evening boat ride in the bayou with "salty old pirates"? I'm a veterinarian and an all-around Disney geek and enthusiast. I'd love to help you plan your next Disneyland trip! Learn More About Al
