I am trying to plan our new years celebration for this year. What parks will have the new years fireworks and when? Will Magic Kingdom have them on the 30th and 31st and Epcot have them on the 31st?

Hey there Alex, and welcome to planDisney!

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to ring in the New Year at the Most Magical Place on Earth, imagine attending the biggest party ever during what definitely feels like the busiest time of the year at Walt Disney World Resort over the holidays. While the exact scheduled events have yet to be announced and cannot be known for certain until closer to the end of the year, one thing you can most definitely expect is for the theme parks to be absolutely jam-packed with thousands of fellow revelers looking to celebrate on those nights. While we're still currently celebrating Halfway to the Holidays across Disney Experiences and releasing dates for all of the events taking place at the end of the year, we can look back on previous years to get an idea of what you might be able to expect:

    • EPCOT's New Year's Eve fireworks celebrations typically take place in time for midnight on December 31, which follow a performance of Luminous The Symphony of Us earlier in the evening. (Last year, Cheers to the New Year: A Sparkling Celebration was scheduled for 11:54 p.m. and many guests chose to spend several hours of their evening camped out along the edges of World Showcase in order to have their preferred view of both shows!)
I found that folks looking to brave the crowds on both of these nights tended to flock to EPCOT for the final day of the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays on December 30 and finish off their evening at Magic Kingdom Park on that day, while devoting New Year's Eve itself to EPCOT and a night full of parties and loud music pumping all over the World Showcase lagoon. In my opinion, you'll want to head into the theme parks sooner than later and I personally wouldn't plan on accomplishing as many attractions as I would on any other day, given the increased standby wait times and crowds that you'd expect. Come back to us here at planDisney for any more strategies to help you plan for this very busy evening, for a night of less waiting and more celebrating!
