Clint Asked Note: This answer was provided prior to the change to planDisney and may still contain references to Disney Parks Moms Panel.

We are trying to plan our HS day. Our son wants to do the Jedi academy. If we get to the park 30-45 min before opening, could my DH take our son to register for the Jedi training while I head to toy story for FP? Do they need kttw cards for Jedi sign up?

Hi Clint! It sounds like you have done your homework in planning for your upcoming Disney trip. Many guests desire to do the two things you mentioned and your plan is a solid one in getting them both accomplished for your visit to Hollywood Studios.  Definitely arrive before the park opens and split up your group giving one person all the park tickets to head to Toy Story Mania to get Fastpasses. The other veers off the left and heads to the Jedi Training center to sign up for the academy. Please note that just because you arrive early it is not a total guarantee your child will be selected. They will be asked questions to determine if they would be a good participant. Disney will not want to have a child be uncomfortable doing what is necessary for the role of a Jedi trainee.

Now just to add a little bit of confusion to your plan please note that Disney is in the process of new technology which is in testing at the moment. This involves a completely new way to pre-reserve Fastpasses and likely might even include the Jedi Academy in the future. It is not known when this will go park wide with all guests. Stay tuned to the Disney website and My Disney Experience for updates!
