We are trying to plan our first family vacation to Disney! We have two girls age 6 & 8 and wondering which moderate accomodations would be best for us. We would like somewhere magical and exciting with more than one pool. Any advice?

    Hi Kim!

My family loves Port Orleans.  In many ways, it is two resorts combined to form one:  Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter.  If you stay at one, you can use all of the services and amenities of the other.  That includes the ability to pool hop between the two, which is generally speaking not allowed at Walt Disney World.

We specifically enjoy the Alligator Bayou section of Port Orleans Riverside.  This section provides a rustic backwoods cottage setting.  The landscaping there, and through out Riverside, is fantastic!  If you request to stay in this section, I recommend putting in a request to be in buildings 14, 15, or 18 since they are close to the resort center and are very close to a quiet pool.  The other section of Riverside, Magnolia Bend, is themed as 2 and 3 story mansion homes in a nod to the large old plantations of the Deep South.

The main pool at Riverside, Ol' Man Island, is great and has a very long slide.  The main pool at French Quarter is nicely themed, but the slide isn't as long and my children had more fun at Riverside.  There are another 5 leisure or quiet pools at Riverside.

I especially enjoy taking the boat from Port Orleans to Downtown Disney, especially at night.  It's a relaxing ride down the Sassagoula River.  There's also a carriage ride through the French Quarter and Riverside that's very enjoyable.

Enjoy planning and write back if you have any more questions!
