I am trying to plan a Disney vacation for a family of 5(2 adults, 2 eight yr olds, and 1 seven yr old)...trying to plan this vacation on a budget. My question is...where do I start? Is a "package" the way to go? Or buy hotel, ding seperately?

Hi, Courtney!  I certainly understand planning a memorable vacation for your family but trying not to break the bank in the process.  For this part of the planning, you're really going to have to roll up your sleeves and do your homework. I have planned a trip as a package and priced out everything separately, and the savings have been different each time for each scenario.  Because Disney (and third-party planners) have so many offers going on right now, there really is no pat answer to your question.

What I do suggest is starting with the website, price out your vacation using the Vacation Booking Guide and educate yourself on various options. Then, with that information in hand, contact a local travel agent,  a web-based agency specializing in Disney, a AAA Disney source and/or the Walt Disney Travel Company at 407-939-7675 (for packages) and 407-939-7429 (for room only).  Ask them to make quotes for you and inform you of any specials or discounts...including ones you can find online.

With a worksheet outlining costs (and offers) for transportation, lodging, meals, tickets, extra entertainment and incidentals, figure up your family's vacation cost for the estimated length of stay and the time of year.  So many factors go into pricing a vacation! However, do make it fun by exploring the website and getting the kids involved once you've made the crucial decisions.  If you have more questions, we're always here, and we'd love to help!  Have a wonderful day and a most magical vacation!
