trying to plan a big family holiday and cant decide which is the better time to go, may or aug. Cheaper flights for us i may, but august has free dining yet its hurricane season and flights are nearly triple the £. so so torn,

    I would recommend May.

    Let's look at your concerns...

    1. Free dining vs. high airfare

The savings you will get flying in May will likely far outweigh the savings you would yield with free dining. Your family can always save on dining costs by eating your largest of the meal of the day at lunch rather than dinner time. Share snacks. Have a breakfast buffet late in the morning as a brunch!

    2. Hurricane season

While the likelihood of a hurricane interrupting your travels is low, the threat does exist. More importantly, it is very hot in May. VERY hot.

Traveling as early in May as possible will give your family the lowest crowds. Schools in the U.S. begin letting out for summer as the end of May grows nearer.

If you choose August, the later in the month, the better for lower crowds.
