Hey Howdy Hey Nathan and welcome to planDisney!
Oh, the custom cakes! Such a great way to end a meal and a special way to celebrate anything from a birthday to just being in Walt Disney World! With the phased reopening and reintroduction to a lot of the special details that were available pre-Covid-19 closures, it also is hard to navigate your way through things to find out the right answer for things like ordering specialty cakes at Walt Disney World. Hakuna Matata Nathan, let's talk about how to get this done!
First off, you are correct, there is a lot of pent-up demand for trips to Walt Disney World Resort and otherwise "slower" times at the resort have not been a thing for the past several months. Cast Members are doing their best to keep up with the demand but things like long wait times on the phone lines have been a thing Disney is trying to address. If you would like to call and have things pre-ordered, keep trying! I would try to get on the phone as soon as the lines open at 7:00 a.m. EST or during working hours would be your best bet. Nevertheless, there are ways around this for your question regarding cakes.
Disney has a
special page just for the latest information regarding specialty cakes across the resort. There is a list of all participating restaurants that have the option for cake orders as well as some with the ability to pre-order the cakes from your My Disney Experience app. If you are looking at the list, there are many dining locations throughout Hollywood Studios that are involved with cake orders. Many of these locations are pre-stocked with cakes, so you can visit the restaurant's host podium and discuss this with the Cast Member there either several days before, if you are visiting the park multiple days, or earlier in the day for your later reservation. Most times you can make this happen on the day of your reservation with restaurants listed as participating on the site.
I hope this helps and have fun with your final weeks of preparation for your upcoming trip! Let us know if you have any further questions.
Have a Magical Day,
Nick
