Hello I am trying to locate magicbands for my upcoming trip but I cannot find anything other than the magic band plus. My question is are the regular magicbands discontinued and if so can the puck from the magic band plus be removed to place on a necklace.

Hey Howdy Hey Christina and welcome to planDisney!

MagicBands at the Walt Disney World Resort have gone through some extensive changes over the past few years. With MagicBands, MagicBand 2 and now MagicBand+ it might be a little confusing to determine which one you need, where they are available and which is right for you. Not to worry Christina, you've got a friend in me to let you in on the details of the Magicband situation. Let's review!

MagicBand 2 is still available for purchase however locations where to find them continue to steadily phase out. Currently, it looks like only a couple are available at the DisneyStore site. You may have better luck searching for them when onsite in Disney World. You can find MagicBands being sold at any of the resort hotel shops as well as in the parks. Typically shops in the parks such as the Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom will have a wider variety of options compared to hotels. You can also search at the World of Disney in Disney Springs which is the largest shop with all things Disney.

I have purchased the MagicBand+ recently and I absolutely love it! There are so many fun ways you can interact with various things in the parks and become more immersed in the celebration and experience. You are right Christina, you can take the the puck off of the wrist strap and place it on a necklace to have a different way to access it.

If you want to purchase your MagicBand+ while onsite and possibly when in the parks, you can access your Theme Park Tickets from your My Disney Experience app. Once you log in to your smart device, go to the menu with the three horizontal lines at the bottom right. Look for your Account heading and then "Set Up My MagicMobile Entry" which you will tap on. This will allow you to set up a MagicMobile pass on your smart device so you won't need a MagicBand early on. Feel free to use this and your MagicBand+ once purchased interchangeably.

I hope this information was helpful for a few options on the MagicBand situation as well as without. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach back out and let us know, we are always happy to help!

    Have a Magical day,
